My audience feedback

I videoed my target audience giving their feedback on my two drafts of my magazine to help me improve my magazine.
Key points I found on how to improve my magazine after my focus group:

  • use the contents page with numbers- makes it clearer
  • layout for the contents page for draft 2 is better
  • flannel panel is a good idea to relate to my younger audience
  • people of their age (my target audience age) said they would buy the magazine, it appeals to their age group.
  • my focus group also said that the colours and images used are appropriate for the age of my target audience and the gender on both covers, contents pages and double page spreads.
  • They also said they liked how I used black and white colours front my 1st draft but preferred the actual image on my second draft.
  • When looking at the mastheads they preferred the 'modern' part of draft 1 and the 'dated' idea from draft 2
  • Using young artists my audience felt drew in the target audience age I wanted as it was relatable to them
  • The front cover is attractive and the poses on both draw in the reader
  • The colours work well as they stick out from a far away and are easy to read.
  • White background works better
  • Masthead represents my genre well, it is clear of my genre.
  • Font on contents page is better on draft 2 as font it more clear and more sophisticated appropriate for that age group
  • Good housestyle the colours go together well and the magazine flows nicely and each folio looks like it belongs together
  • Contents page fulfils its purpose things are easy to find.
  • Websites on the flannel panel are popular amongst their age group and are therefore appropriate for my magazine
  • Images on the front cover and contents page and double page spread are appropriate.
  • All folios represent my genre well.
  • Colours work well together as the red against neutral colours make things stand out.
  • On double page spread, my audience prefer how i used individual images in my text in draft 2 but like the main image used in draft 1.
  • On the double page spread the font on draft 2 is more clear so is preferable.
  • double page spread, they prefer the layout on draft 2
  • Pull quote and standfirst would intrigue them to read the magazine
  • The use of drop caps makes it look professional
  • The clothing and the artists themselves would attract my target audience
I will include all the key points and feedback I have received from my focus group in my final piece. I will take the good point from each draft and combine the good points as well as adding new elements and conventions to improve and create a final product that my target audience would really want to buy, which I can do now I know not only what they want in the magazine but I also know what they do like and don't like in the actual production.
